300 Days of Sunshine a Year
What began as a small community built to serve westward travelers in the mid-1800s has become a bustling city that acts as the gateway to outdoor adventure in Nevada, aptly known as "America’s Adventure Place."
Within an hour's drive, there are 15 ski resorts, 50 golf courses, Lake Tahoe, the state capital Carson City, thousands of biking and hiking trails, horseback riding, and several lakes that are perfect for fishing and boating, and the entire length of the Truckee River, which runs right through the center of Reno's downtown.
Kayakers can enjoy the Truckee River Whitewater Park (the centerpiece of the annual Reno River Festival), conveniently located downtown next to an eclectic mix of shops and eateries. Car enthusiasts should visit the National Automobile Museum if they can’t make it to Hot August Nights, Reno’s famous classic-car event. Plans are in the works for a downtown Triple-A baseball stadium, and outdoor superstore Cabela’s recently opened west of downtown in Verdi.

McKinley Arts & Culture Center
The McKinley Arts & Culture Center has recently undergone extensive rehabilitation. This historic building now boasts gallery space, arts and crafts workshops, the Arts and Culture Division and provides rental office space for local non-profit arts organizations. An auditorium and class rooms are available for use by tenants, as well as for rental by outside cultural groups for rehearsal and performance space.
The former McKinley Park School was constructed in 1910, and was one of four Spanish/Mission style schools in Reno dubbed the "Spanish Quartet". Two have since been destroyed, and the other remaining school, Mount Rose, has been renovated and is in use as an elementary school. McKinley Park occupies an important place within the Truckee River Arts and Culture District.
And, in addition to all of this, there are casinos.
